Edward (James McArdle) is a full-time carer to his octogenarian disabled mother Alma (Fionnula Flanagan) and a part-time writer of adult novels about queer romance. Over one chaotic weekend, he is tasked with looking after three other eccentric older women, along with his mother. Thornton's sophomore feature is inspired by Gianni Di Gregorio's 2008 Mid-August Lunch and paints a tender portrait of the mother son relationship. This chatty Dublin-set film is equal parts sentimental and sweet.
