Meet The Barbarians

Julie Delpy
The little French town of Paimpont is awaiting the arrival of a Ukrainian refugee family. But it turns out that the family allotted to them is not Ukrainian but Syrian. Awkward? Very awkward. Julie Delpy's TIFF film is a sharp social satire wrapped in smalltown comedy. As the local people of Paimpont come to terms with the unexpected residents, their hypocritical attitudes and double standards are laid bare. Delpy strikes the perfect balance between the funny and the political, commenting on just how difficult life is for Muslim refugees, both within the world of the film and outside of it.
