Opening Night Gala: The Return
Uberto Pasolini
It has been more than 20 years since Odysseus (Ralph Fiennes) left his kingdom to fight in the Trojan War and, in all that time, his wife and queen Penelope (Juliette Binoche) has waited. Uberto Pasolini's slow-burn adaptation of Homer's second epic is grounded in a classical style that captures the steeliness of its Greek source. Focus is shifted away from mythological conflicts onto more human and psychological concerns. Fiennes and Binoche are terrific as the heroes of this ancient drama. On the shores of Ithaca, gazes are locked tight, and every breath and word is measured, as the man of many turns, returns.
Ralph Fiennes will be in attendance.
