Maura Delpero
This film will be followed by a 20 minute Q&A
Italy, 1944. In Vermiglio, a mountain village high up in the Alps, war looms as a distant but constant threat. The arrival of Pietro (Giuseppe De Domenico), a deserted soldier, disrupts the local dynamics, changing them forever. Over the four seasons marking the end of World War II, Pietro and Lucia (Martina Scrinzi), the eldest daughter of a teacher, are instantly drawn to each other leading to an unexpected restructuring of familial and social relationships. Delpero’s second feature is a momentous and remarkable piece of cinema, not relying on pretentions or pastry but going straight for the jugular of family secrets. With its premiere in Venice, the film was awarded the Grand Jury Prize.
