Summary

Wracked by guilt after covering up a murder, Mona (Yousif), a northern Sudanese retired singer, tries to make amends by taking in the deceased’s southern Sudanese widow, Julia (Riak), and her son, into her home. In this fine debut by Kordofani, a personal moral drama is staged on the sets of a fractured and politically tense Sudan. The first ever Sudanese film to play in an ofcial selection at Cannes, it won the Un Certain Regard section’s Freedom Prize.
